How does DRFT detect my name?
On iPhone, DRFT listens through your microphone for ambient audio. On Mac, it captures system audio from apps like Zoom, Teams, and Meet. Both use on-device speech recognition to detect your wake words in real time and send you a notification.
Does DRFT work in the background?
Yes. On iPhone, DRFT uses background audio mode to keep listening even when the app isn't in the foreground or your screen is locked. On Mac, it runs as a menu bar app — no window needed. Just start a session and forget about it.
Is DRFT free?
DRFT is free on iPhone (with ads) and Mac (ad-free). The free tier includes your first and last name plus one custom word. Pro removes all ads and unlocks up to 5 total words, 50 saved moments, AI-powered summaries, iCloud sync, cloud backups, and cross-device push.
Is my audio sent to the cloud?
No. All speech recognition runs entirely on-device on both iPhone and Mac using Apple's speech framework. Audio is never recorded or stored. Only a short text transcript is sent to generate AI summaries for Pro users.
What apps does DRFT work with on Mac?
DRFT works with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, FaceTime, Discord, Slack huddles, and any app that plays audio through your Mac — including browsers like Chrome, Safari, Arc, and Firefox.
How do iPhone and Mac work together?
Both apps sync your wake words and detection history via iCloud. With Pro, your Mac can also send push notifications to your iPhone when your name is mentioned in a call — even if the iPhone app isn't open. No pairing or setup required, just the same Apple ID.
How is DRFT different from meeting transcription apps?
Transcription apps record everything. DRFT only activates when it hears your specific wake words. It doesn't record or store audio — all speech recognition happens on-device. You get a notification and AI summary only when your words are detected.
